I first saw the Lumos smart helmet on of all things TMZ. I loved the idea of this and had to check it out for myself. I wake up early mornings when it is still dark to go out and bike in peace (little to no traffic). This helmet felt like the perfect investment for my safety while out on both the street and even off road riding in the wooded areas.The helmet works as advertised. The bluetooth L & R turn signal button are very responsive to the helmet lights and does a fantastic job letting folks behind or ahead of me know which way I am going.If I had any negative for this it would be that I wish that it last longer than it does. I completed a 50-mile ride in the span of 4 hours and the lights lasted for at least three of those hours but by that time at least it was bright and sunny out.If you are planning to go on long excursions like I did might I suggest bringing a charger for when you are in a rest stop to recharge it if need be. But if you are going on shorter rides the helmet is perfect.It also is as durable as what you’d expect for a bike helmet just with a few more bells and whistles.The other thing you may want to look out for is the app (and Apple Watch app). While the app syncs to the helmet and turn signal buttons I may not suggest you use it for GPS monitoring as it will block your Activity app which will have much more data for you.If you use it while using the Activity app it will end the Apple Activity app.The Lumos app will add your workout minutes on the Apple Watch but that is about it. It will not add to your bike minutes rather just add out to your workout minutes.OVERALL: this is a go for me. Despite the lights going out after 3 hours and the app cutting off your Apple Activity data everything else is really great.A great investment especially in the event of your involved in an accident where you can tell the courts that you had your turn signals up at the time.Jump on it.I was desperately in need of a new bike helmet mostly because the one I have used for years was looking a little long in the tooth and isn't really up to spec with the newest head protection science. I happened to find the Lumos helmet through a Facebook ad and further viewing of their Kickstarter posting. I don't financially support Kickstarter projects, mostly because getting a concept from design stage to broad manufacturing is a challenging and generally months long process, of which many great ideas on Kickstarter don't make it or take forever getting to market. But upon seeing it on Amazon, I knew it was real and they had gotten through the design and manufacturing hurdles.The helmet is basically indistinguishable from a conventional high end bicycle helmet, with the exception of the LEDs and turn signal control. The helmet arrived from Amazon well packaged with an outer shipping box and an inner retail box in bright orange. There was no frustration getting it out of the package, it just slid out on a little platform and it was basically ready to go.Adjusting the helmet to my head size was super easy. There is a dial at the back bottom of the helmet, twist it and you can shrink or enlarge the circumference of the helmet. You can even use it to tighten the helmet to your head, and then loosen it when taking the helmet off. It reminds me of high quality construction hard hats, in this respect. If you have ever used an adjustable hard hat, this particular sizing system will be quite familiar.I don't think I have a huge head, but the helmet is just about my head size with little extra slack in the adjuster. Like some others have commented, I would like to have the helmet be a little larger with a little more play in the adjustment mechanism, but this isn't preventing me from using the helmet or it being comfortable. I don't have my exact head size, so you'll just have to take my word for it.This helmet is a little heavier than my Bell Spectrum that this replaces. I also expect that to be normal considering that this helmet has integrated battery, LEDs and a Bluetooth module. The helmet, in spite of the extra weight, which again, isn't much, is well balanced, so you don't really notice that you have a bunch of LEDs at the rear of your head and some more at the front above your eyes.My helmet arrived with a nearly fully charged battery. One of the first things I did upon unboxing was to download the iPhone app and pair the helmet with the app. Read the included instructions. Pairing with my phone went smoothly, but you have one multi-function power button on the back of the helmet with with to turn it on, cycle between the flashing or always on modes and to put the helmet into Bluetooth pairing mode. It helps to have read the instructions and know how that button acts or how long to hold it down to activate the pairing mode.Once paired, the software indicated that the helmet was 95% charged. The turn signal switch that mounts on the bike was a different story. It didn't respond when I unpackaged it and had to immediately charge it for it to work with the helmet and register with the mobile app.With sufficient battery power and the turn signal switch charging, I used this opportunity to update the firmware since the app indicated that there was a firmware update. This process went very smoothly, although there is minimal graphical feedback in the app when a firmware update is being applied. The app basically indicates that a firmware update is needed, allows you to start the process with the press of a button and then the app shows you status information in text, but there are few if any progress bars. The firmware update took less than 5 minutes, and when done the app indicates that you are up-to-date.With the firmware update completed and the turn signal indicators charged, all worked well with the helmet.There is no doubt in my mind that you will be noticed by drivers and anyone else on the road with you. Whether you use the flashing mode or the solid mode, you will definitely be seen by others from a long way away. The turn signal will be great when sharing the road with drivers. I always feel unbalanced when using hand signals to indicate turns, but this keeps my hands on the handle bar, with means much greater control and stability.It will be interesting to know what the future has in store with this helmet since it has the ability to be firmware updated.I highly recommend this to any urban cyclist and night cyclist as one of the most comprehensive lights and helmets available.This Helmet had all the features that I wanted at a valued price. Cars in front and back can now she that I am turning left or right. I now feel much safer and will enjoy Winter when the Sun rises later in the morning.Ich verfasse ja selten (eigentlich nie) Bewertungen, aber hier musste ich Eine schreiben.Vorab: Wer einen Rechtschreibfehler findet darf Ihn behalten. ;)Das FAZIT direkt zu Begin:Der der Helm ist was für den Gelegenheitsfahrer mit kurzer Strecke zur Arbeit (oder sonst wohin), der im Dunkeln besser gesehen werden möchte. Für lange Fahrten ehr ungeeignet. Hier wurde zu viel über Design und App nachgedacht und zu wenig über die vielen Funktionen und Details vom Fahrradhelm. Wer viel fährt und auch oft im Dunkeln unterwegs ist, wird sich alle 1-2 Jahren das Ding neu kaufen müssen. Und vielleicht ab und zu 'ne neue Halterung für die Fernbedienung, weil die Alte geklaut wurde.Für mich Persönlich nur 2 SterneAnfangs fand ich den Helm einfach top. Und nach den ersten euphorischen Momenten hätte ich bestimmt 5 Sterne gegeben. Und hier muss ich einfach sagen, es gibt hier 1-Stern Bewertung die berechtigt sind und 5-Sterne Bewertungen die auch berechtigt sind. Man muss in diesem Fall echt differenzieren wer ihn trägt.Kleiner Vergleich wer sich 'nen Formel1 Wagen für die Rennstrecke kauft, gibt dem Formel1 Wagen 5 Sterne. Wer sich einen Formel1 Wagen kauft, um damit Pferde zu ziehen, gibt dem wegen fehlender Anhängerkupplung nur einen Stern ;)Ich fahren mehrere tausend Kilometer im Jahr und werde ihn höchstwahrscheinlich zurück schicken.Ich habe den Helm nun seit 2 Wochen täglich im Einsatz.Die Verarbeitung ist wirklich gut. Wobei ich bis jetzt keine länge Fahrt bei richtigem Regen dabei hatte. Bei bisschen Nieselregen war alles gut. Es hat sich nirgendwo Wasser abgesetzt oder gesammelt.Mein Kopfumfang zwischen 57 und 58cm. Der Helm alleine sitzt gut und ist nicht unbequem. Bis man ihn zu macht. Die Führungen der Gurte auf den einzelnen Seiten sehen bei mir ganz anders aus, als auf den Bildern. Das wurde hier schon öfters bemängelt. Die Gurte kommen aus so unterschiedlichen Winkeln, dass sich die Führungsclips verdrehen und drücken. Das ist auf Dauer echt unangenehmen. Hinzu kommt das die Gurte bei mir so lang auskommen, dass gefühlt noch ein halber Meter runter hängt. Beim Umsehen hackt es Ständig an der Jacke.Die Belüftung ist recht mau. Bei kurzen Fahrten vollkommen egal. Bei längeren Fahrten läuft einem echt die Suppe durchs Gesicht.Thema "fehlender Insektenschutz" wurde hier schon oft erwähnt... Im reinen Stadtverkehr kein Problem. Bei Wald- und Feldwegen sieht es schon anders aus.Das hohe Gewicht durch die Beleuchtung, fällt natürlich beim ersten aufsetzten sofort auf. Aber man gewöhnt sich dran. Selbst bei langer fahrt finde ich das nicht störend.Die Beleuchtung ist super, um im Dunkeln gesehen zu werden oder wenn man im dunkeln ein "Lichtlein" braucht. Es reicht um im Dunkeln die Garage zu öffnen oder bei der Fahrt aufs unbeleuchtete Tacho zu gucken. Wer sich damit den Weg vor ihm ausleuchten möchte, kann das vergessen.Die Blinker finde ich nicht schlecht. Denn Handzeichen werden im dunkeln schnell übersehen. Aber ob es von Autofahrern wirklich als Richtungsweiser erkannt wird, wage ich zu bezweifeln. Dafür ist es noch zu "exotisch"Die Bremsfunktion ist wirklich noch im Betastadium. Die Sensibilität/Ansprechverhalten kann man zwar in der App ändern. Die Änderung lässt sich aber nicht speichern und reagiert viel zu sensibel. Das größte Problem ist, das der Sensor dafür in der Fernbedienung verbaut ist. Bei jeder kleinsten Unebenheit erkennt diese ein Bremsen und aktiviert die Bremslichter. Auf deutschen Straßen also ehr Dauerlicht...auf sehr glatten Wegen funktioniert es.Mein Arbeitsweg dauert nur 8 Minuten. Dafür alleine wäre der Helm perfekt und 5 Sterne Wert.Dann aber mal nach Feierabend unterwegs gewesen. Da sah das ganze schon anders aus.Zu Beginn war der Helm zu 100% geladen.Zur Arbeit bei Dunkelheit. 8 Minuten Dauerlicht vorne und hinten an + Bremsfunktion und Blinker.Nach Feierabend 45min in die Stadt. Nur Rücklicht + Bremsfunktion und Blinker.Abends im Dunkeln 50min nach Hause. Volle Beleuchtung + Bremsfunktion und ganz selten mal geblinkt. (im Wald nicht nötig)Nach diesen nicht mal 2h meldete der Helm Akkustand gering (19%). Er musste also direkt mal geladen werden.Ich bin öfters nach Feierabend mal länger unterwegs. Ich müsste ihn fast jeden Tag laden...der Akku bedankt sich. Da er fest verbaut ist kann ihn auch nicht tauschen.Somit verwandelt sich der Helm vom Gebrauchsgegenstand zum Verbrauchsgegenstand. Also alle 1-2 Jahre ca. 200€ für einen neuen Helm? Wenn man sich Funktionen wirklich nutzen will, weswegen man diesen hier gekauft hat... GEHT GAR NICHT.Thema Sicherheit. klar hat der das Mips System. Ich selbst fahre auch noch Mountainbike und habe schon so manchen Sturz gehabt. Zwei bei denen ich für meine Helme (ohne MIPS) sehr dankbar war. Und obwohl sie kein MIPS hatten blieb mein Kopf unversehrt. Klar es ist es ein Pluspunkt. Aber ich glaube ein Unfall bei dem ein normaler Helm (ich rede nicht vom 29€ Chinahelm, sondern renommierten Herstellern) nicht mehr hilft, wird der Fahrer ganz andere Sorgen haben. Da wird das MIPS auch nichts mehr zu Sache tun.Die Fernbedienung am Lenker ist ok. Hält auch am Lenker und bleibt an Ort und Stelle und lässt sich trotzdem verschieben wenn man will.Was mir hier fehlt sind die Ösen für Kabelbinder. Ich bin kein Fan von den Gummibändern. Jeder der will, kann das Ding einfach abmachen mitnehmen. Und nach einer gewissen Zeit können die Gummis porös und hart werden.Kurz zum Rest. Die App ist gut und einfach aufgebaut. Das Koppeln ging super und problemlos. Die Einstellmöglichkeiten sind gut. 3 Profile die im Helm gespeichert werden. Gut gelöst. Aber die Bremsfunktion kann noch nicht richtig eingestellt werden.Die Anleitung und die App sind nur auf englisch. Mir persönlich ist das egal. In der heutigen Zeit wird das für jeden Smartphone Besitzer ein klacks sein, und der Helm selbst hat nur einen Knopf.FAZIT seht ihr oben.Great as long as you do not use it in heavy rain. The led sections get totally water logged and then in stops working properly. I emailed Lumos support who told me it is not meant for heavy rain?What an absolute quality piece of kit this is!. Probably the best cycle helmet I have owned in over 55 years of cycling. Very well made, extremely comfortable, (my head measures 56cms), and gives a real feeling of security when worn. As for the lighting system...all I can say is that it is first rate. I was concerned that without a smart phone I would not be able to utilise the lights and the turn signals, but after communication with the sellers, (which was first rate by the way) and after receiving the item, my fears have proved to be completely unfounded. It worked straight from the box and even if it hadn't, the instructions that came with it, would have enabled 'syncing' without any problems. The handlebar attachment that operates the turn signals is unobtrusive and fits easily using the rubber bands provided.This is without a doubt, an extremely well thought out and manufactured item and whilst it may seem to be expensive, I believe it is worth every penny. I understand that the 'stop light' system is still in Beta, but I have to say that the one on my helmet, works fine. If you are in the market for a very well made, all singing, all dancing cycle helmet, that will not only increase your presence on the road but will make your cycling safer, then I would wholeheartedly recommend this item. I for one, consider it money extremely well spent and MY family pet name is Scrooge!Ich beziehe mich auf den Lumos MIPS Helm der neusten Generation (Herstellung grob 08/18).Kurz zu mir: Ich fahre ganzjährig mit dem Rad ins Büro, 10 km täglich in einer größeren Stadt. Helm, Warnweste und LED-Bänder an den Beinen gehören für mich zur Grundausstattung. Vorsorge ist besser als Nachsorge…Okay, der Preis ist auf den ersten Blick stattlich... aber: Der Helm hat eine klare Zielgruppe. Für den Gelegenheitsradler, der nur hier und da mal das Rad aus dem Keller zerrt ist er sicherlich übertrieben, aber für Berufspendler, die bei Dunkelheit regelmäßig durch die City fahren ist er ein klarer Gewinn. Ich werde definitiv mit dem Lumos Helm besser und schneller gesehen. Man darf nicht vergessen, das gute Helme ohne „smarte“ Funktionen auch schon gerne im höheren zweistelligen Bereich liegen. Wer die Blinkerfunktion etc. nicht benötigt kann z.B. auf die Lite-Version zurückgreifen, die schon erheblich günstiger ist. Das „MIPS“ ist ein Merkmal, was man definitiv hervorheben muss. Andere Helme mit „MIPS“ sind in der Regel auch in der gehobenen Preiskategorie zu finden.Der Helm kommt sicher verpackt mit einer Fernbedienung (für die, die Watch-App nicht nutzen können/wollen), Befestigungsmaterial, Ladekabel und einer (leider englischsprachigen) Anleitung.Es empfiehlt sich, die App für das Smartphone runterzuladen um den vollen Funktionsumfang nutzen zu können. Die Einrichtung (Pairing) klappte überraschend gut. Auch das Kalibrieren der Watch war, auf einem sicheren Radweg, nach 2 Versuchen abgeschlossen. Ich habe lediglich die Gesten für das Abbiegelicht noch einmal etwas genauer eingestellt. Danach funktionierte es während der Fahrt ohne Probleme. So kann ich nun nach Bedarf mit dem linken Arm den Befehl geben oder eben mit der am Lenker angebrachten Fernbedienung (Funk). Das Abbiegelicht ersetzt meiner Meinung nach nicht das Handzeichen, da Autofahrer einfach nicht an diese Art Leuchtsignale am Radfahrern gewöhnt sind… Das Frontlicht ersetzt auch keine Beleuchtung am Rad. Sie dient lediglich der besseren Sichtbarkeit. Der Helm ist auch etwas schwerer als mein alter Helm, was aber auf kurzen Touren nicht weiter auffällt. Für lange Touren im Sommer werde ich wohl weiterhin den alten Helm nutzen. Diese finden in der Regel tagsüber statt, so dass ich keine zusätzliche Beleuchtung benötige. Zur Akkulaufzeit kann ich noch nicht viel sagen. Ich habe bisher grob 25% am Tag an Ladung verbraucht und am 3. Tag geladen. Die Fernbedienung hält länger und erforderte bisher keine Ladung. Das Bremslicht habe ich noch nicht testen können, da ich diese erst mit meinem Partner zusammen kalibrieren möchte. Ich kann mir ja während der Fahrt nicht selbst auf den Hinterkopf gucken ;-) Der Kinnriemen gefällt mir nicht so gut, da dort eine einfache Schnalle angebracht wurde. Da gefiel mir der Verschluss mit Einhandbedienung vom Vorgängerhelm besser. Polsterung empfinde ich als angenehm. Helm sitzt auf meinem eher durchschnittlich großen Kopf gut.Von mir gibt es eine klare Empfehlung für alle Pendler, die in der dunklen Jahreszeit das Rad nicht gegen das Auto tauschen wollen.Excellent safety helmet. Very comfortable to wear. Lights are bright & can be seen in daylight. When riding early in the morning or at dusk lights become very present indeed. Indicators are extremely impressive that can be seen by motorists from the front & rear. A bit expensive but if you ride a lot & ride early or late this helmet is a winner. Personally I feel more confident on the road in various weather conditions.
